Tranquility. Since the project's inception, this phrase has served as a guide for both architect Carol Miluzzi and

engineer Willian Vasconcelos.

The house, which has two major blocks fashioned like a "L" and is situated in Araçoiaba da Serra, a southeast

village in the Brazilian city of So Paulo, quietly embraces the area's natural beauty. There is a constant view of

the mountains in the area and a clean, crisp sense in its huge expanses. The pair placed a high value on the

home's ability to naturally promote relaxation and decompression.

The woodwork of the home is substantial, much like the bricks, appearing to be individual pieces of a larger

artwork. The strength and adaptability of the wood are recognized in everything from pergolas to benches to steps

to even the roof structure. The entry module was painted using the Japanese shou-sugi-ban style, which contrasts

the house's simplicity with a refined tone. It is left to the viewer's imagination how this duality is implemented

inside the home.

The empty sections of the land occupation were envisioned as dwellings. A rustic wooden pergola structure houses

an outdoor kitchen space on one side with a play of light and shadow, and an open deck that lets in fresh air and

makes up the front of the house on the other.
